On behalf of the Organizing Committee, it is my great pleasure and honor to invite you to attend the 10th International Conference of the International Society for Industrial Ecology, to be held at the Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, from July 7 to 11, 2019.
The conference theme is “Industrial Ecology for Eco-civilization”. Reflecting on the consequences and the logic behind them, our people come to realize the current industrial civilization should be transformed into another civilization which harmonizes with nature and even ourselves. To make it happen, we need concept breaking, theoretical innovation, methodological support and tools development. Triggered by the seminal article 30 years ago, luckily, industrial ecology has bred dozens of toolboxes, including social economic metabolism, eco-industrial development, life cycle assessment, environmental input-output analysis, complex systems modeling, etc. We hope that you would continue to bring brilliant ideas, best work and profound enthusiasm to the conference, and make ISIE2019 another big success to promote the use of industrial ecology in research, education, policy, community development, and industrial practices.
China is experiencing a great transition from an agriculture-dominated country to the world plant. In the past 40 years, China economy increased by 9.5% annually while the domestic material input increased only by 6.3%. China issued Cleaner Production Promotion Law in 2002 and Circular Economy Promotion Law in 2008. More recently, China issued a series of action plans on water, air and land pollution prevention and control under the umbrella of eco-civilization. In this sense, China has become the best touchstone for examining the achievements of industrial ecology because of its rapid industrial development, giant scale and great diversity.
We look forward to seeing you at Tsinghua University. You have a chance to network with the leading scholars of industrial ecology from around the world, to share and exchange cutting-edge ideas and work, to visit Chinese transitional metropolitan areas in the world.
