Post-doc position: consumer behavior in mobility systems

A postdoctoral research position is available for an expert in quantitative consumer behavior in mobility systems, in order to develop set of tools to examine the diffusion consequences for various Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) and their implications on energy and the environment.  We seek a researcher who can conduct consumer surveys, apply sophisticated choice models, and then convert the results to be used in a forward-looking energy demand models.  This position requires a strong statistical background as well as familiarity with energy-transport systems.  The successful applicant will be part of a team of researchers that employ studies in the context of diffusion of innovation, energy systems, and sustainability analysis on large scale.

The position will be funded by Tel Aviv University under a grant agreement from the Israeli ministry of environmental protection in collaboration with the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) in Austria. The successful candidate will work closely with diverse research groups led by Professor Itai Sened (Public Policy) and Dr. Vered Blass (Industrial Ecology) from Tel Aviv University and in close collaboration with Dr. Anat Tchechik (Consumer Economics, Bar Ilan University) and the Energy Program (ENE) at IIASA. As part of the project, transport consumer surveys will be conducted and analyzed; a logit-based choice model for the transport sector will be developed and parameterized; and then the transport model will be linked to the MESSAGEix energy systems model developed at IIASA. Responsibilities of the applicant include developing consumer surveys, analyzing the results using advanced econometric models, and working with another postdoctoral researcher and/or programmer to develop a logit-based, forward-looking transport model and to link this model with MESSAGEix. Contributing to project reports and publishing in peer-reviewed journals will also be expected.

Funding is available for one year with extension option for another 6 months. A Ph.D. in a discipline such as consumer behavior, ecological economics, or transport studies is required; strong quantitative and statistical analysis skills are necessary; familiarity with discrete choice models as well as demonstrated experience in working with diverse collaboration teams and publication record is important. The position requires spending time in Israel and trips to Austria. However, there is flexibility in living location.  A monthly stipend (tax-free) will be paid according to the Tel Aviv University post-doc stipend levels.  Interested candidates should send a (1) cover letter; (2) statement of research interests that includes recent accomplishments and how this position will help  achieve  career objectives; (3) current curriculum vitae; and (4) the names of two references (please include email addresses and phone numbers).  Review of applications will begin February 25, 2019, and will continue until position is filled. Expected start date is ASAP.  Questions about the position or application materials should be sent to vblass@tauex.tau.ac.il
