Postdoc position in the areas of Life Cycle Assessment and Food System Modeling at the School of Public Health, State University of New York-Albany

Job Description:

The goal of the project, funded by the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research, is to develop a novel system model, which is capable of quantifying environmental, nutritional, and health impacts of food recovery and redistribution systems in small to medium metropolitan areas under varied policy scenarios, with New York’s Capital Region as a case example.  Built on the collaborations with industrial, governmental, and non-profit organization partners, the expected tasks for the postdoctoral researcher include: 1) identify inefficiencies, barrier and opportunities for growth in the recovering and re-distributing food surplus in a mid-scale metropolitan region, through leveraging existing data from project investigators and community partners, and 2) quantify environmental releases and impacts of transporting recovered surplus fresh produce, and compare results with the status quo food waste practices.

Requirements:

PhD degree (or equivalent) obtained within the past three years in Environmental/Health Science, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering, Public Policy, or any other related fields from a college or university accredited by the USDOE or internationally recognized accredited organization; Experience with Life Cycle assessment, system dynamic modeling, GIS software, and statistical analyses; Skills and experience in managing large datasets are desirable; Demonstrated awareness of food systems and environmental sustainability challenges; Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team and a drive to create own novel research direction.  Please submit CV/resume’ and Cover letter.  Applicants must address in their application their ability to work with culturally diverse populations.
